Research
The Public and Private Policy Department’s professors are actively engaged in theoretical and applied research in the areas of negotiation, corporate real estate, urban governance, social entrepreneurship and philanthropy, market regulation, business law in a broad sense, European law.

Education
The Public and Private Policy Department offers students and professionals training in the following areas:
• Business law, European law and Public law
The Department offers students wishing to pursue a career in Business law to follow a Legal track and allows them to prepare for admission to the Ecole de formation professionnelle des Barreaux de Paris (EFP or Paris Bar School) and to prepare for admission to the Ecole nationale d’administration (ENA).
• International Negotiation
The objective of the Negotiation and International Governance track is to train students attracted to careers with high international content, particularly in public institutions (diplomacy, European institutions, international organizations) and large non-governmental organizations (technical assistance, development , solidarity, peace and security, etc.).
• Real Estate Economics and Management
Students interested in the real estate sector have the opportunity to first, follow the courses offered by the Chair in Real Estate and Sustainable Development, and second, follow the Real Estate-RICS track once they have successfully validated the Chair’s courses.
• Social Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Philanthropy
Students willing to put the common good at the heart of their professional career can follow a six-month specialization in social innovation and entrepreneuship: specific courses, seminars and conferences, together with field visits and concrete projects with social entrepreneurs will allow them to get ready to work for a sustainable development. Further, ESSEC offers courses on philanthropy and impact investing to help students understand how private actors fund the common good.
• Urban Economics & Urban Planning
The department offers a series of courses in urban economics and urban planning, public sector management, local and regional governing bodies and local democracy, through the Chair of Urban Economics, one of the first three chairs created at ESSEC.

Chair for Real Estate and Sustainable Development
The Chair for Real Estate and Sustainable Development provides theoretical and practical training in current issues facing the real estate industry. It aims to support both teaching and research in the economics, financing and management of the real estate industry whilst taking into account issues of sustainable development.
CONcertation, Négociation, Environnement, Conception et Territoires (CONNECT)
Concertation is a practice that develops in France and in many countries in response to the conflict of development projects, technical controversies and the more general questioning by the citizens of experts and authorities. The CONNECT center aims to illuminate the inputs and limits of these consultation mechanisms through the conduct of transdisciplinary research carried out with its partners.
ESSEC Philanthropy Chair
The ESSEC Philanthropy Chair aims to understand philanthropy and enhance its impact. Broadly defined as private giving for public purposes, philanthropy encompasses individual donors, corporations, foundations, and other organized forms of charitable giving. Through academic research, teaching, and outreach activities, the Chair combines academic rigor and relevance for practice in order to produce and disseminate new knowledge about philanthropy, primarily in France and in Europe.
European Center for Law and Economics
The European Centre for Law and economics at ESSEC wants to propose an integrated approach to law and economics. Such an approach is now a necessity understood by economic actors who are aware of the role of law in defining their strategies and the importance of legal regulation for the competitiveness of economies.
International Governance and Dialogue Center of excellence (IRENE)
The Institute for Research and Education on Negotiation in Europe (IRENE) aims to strengthen and improve negotiation theory and practice in their various fields of application. It has been created in 1996 in order to gather researchers and practitioners interested in negotiation, mediation, stake-holders dialogue, and conflict resolution (academics, senior civil servants, elected representatives, managers and employees of businesses, trade unionists, social mediators).
Social Innovation Chair
The mission of the Chair is to contribute, through research, training and experimentations, to the empowerment of individuals and organizations involved in social entrepreneurship and social innovation.
Urban Economics Chair
Unique among major schools of management, the ESSEC Urban Economics Chair has been educating students for over 20 years on the complex issues that surround the management of cities and territories. Focusing on both the public and the private sector, chair graduates are given the tools to promote economic development taking into account social, environmental and urban planning, and start careers as managers within local or regional governing bodies or their partners.
