Career progression doesn’t just take its own course. It is created by arming yourself with the right tools and education that harness your individual experience. Even senior leaders must constantly learn to adapt to the challenges of the constantly evolving economy to propel their business growth. To that end, the ESSEC and Mannheim Executive MBA Asia-Pacific is designed to help participants take leadership to the next level.
This degree was introduced to train a generation of high-level professionals, business leaders and entrepreneurs from the private and public sectors to drive and sustain the growth of the Asian region.
“The cutting-edge curriculum design, world-class education by subject-matter experts, a platform of professional experience exchange, and residence study in overseas top business schools are the main reasons why I chose to enroll in this program.” shared by ESSEC & Mannheim EMBA Asia-Pacific alumni, Mr. Mark Chen, Head of Human Resources.
The profile of the EMBA participants are highly diverse. “The majority attend the course to climb their company ladders. They may have an engineering or IT degree, or are oil and gas engineers looking to secure a senior management role in the company . To do that, they need a comprehensive knowledge of how the company works,” explained Prof. Cèdomir Nestorovic, Program Director of the ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA Asia-Pacific. “Others come for the knowledge, not necessarily to run the company. They want to keep up with things like digitalization of the economy and the latest developments in all areas of management.”
An innovative, inclusive Asia-centric curriculum
As this century has been touted by experts as the “Asian Century”, the program content is designed to be international with a pan-Asian focus. It addresses the needs of Asia-based cases and business models while preserving their universal qualities.
An innovative curriculum incorporates the latest business trends in topics such as big data, value-creating innovation, branding with digital and social networks, and family business. Big data, says Prof Nestorovic, is especially important in Asia, which has the highest number of poor populations in the world. “For example, how can a multinational company address a population with low purchasing power? By collective massive data to discover how and what to sell them,” he said.
Similarly, digital marketing and social media have changed the way companies address their potential customers. “Now we must learn how to evolve and address this population,” he continued. In fact, as digitalization forms the crux of business strategy today, it plays a pivotal role in just about all the program’s courses.
At the same time, an inclusive approach places strong focus on actionable learning and tactical frameworks that are applicable in the workplace. Course professors are experts in their domains, working with companies in real time. Their experience and network alone open doors for participants, allowing them to experience real-world scenarios as part of the curriculum.
“For example, the entrepreneurship group-based projects drive entrepreneurial skills through real life consulting projects,” said Prof Nestorovic. “During a study trip to Japan, we looked at the latest developments in robotics in the medical industry; we visited the university where the private companies have a stake in the research, and the university hospital where the research is implemented. It’s an invaluable experience to see how it is all done first hand and it allows our participants to see how companies use the information they have gathered in their daily operations.”
