One of the two majors available under ESSEC’s internationally recognized, bi-continental Global MBA (GMBA), the Strategy & Digital Leadership track equips participants with a macro view of core business functions and a strong understanding of digital transformation – a skillset highly sought after by employers, which gives graduates an immediate advantage over their peers when entering the workforce.
Ranked #2 in Asia by the QS Global MBA Rankings for 2021, the program equips participants with a comprehensive understanding of the fast-changing digital landscape and the skills necessary for a range of interesting job roles and industries. The notion of sustainability is also integrated into the program through conferences and related courses, sensitizing participants to the importance of corporate social responsibility.
What the Strategy & Digital Leadership track covers
Spanning one year, the program begins with a robust set of foundation courses such as management, leadership training, finance, accounting, macroeconomics and operations. The Strategy & Digital Leadership track builds on this foundation with modules in big data & artificial intelligence for business (including blockchain, data visualization, internet of things and machine learning), business model innovation, business law, digital disruption, geopolitics and responsible leadership. Intertwining courses with real-life case studies, business trips, competitions and practical experience, the program culminates in a consulting-focused field project during the final summer.
The QS Employer Insights Report 2020 published in September highlighted employers’ strong hiring preference for MBA candidates, and lists leadership, strategy and innovation as the three most prized MBA specializations. The report also emphasizes the importance of graduates with professional experience. By addressing the sweet spot of today’s job market, ESSEC GMBA’s Strategy & Digital Leadership track and hands-on learning differentiate its participants from other business school graduates.
Divya Tolath, an alumna who completed the GMBA in 2020, says she chose the Strategy & Digital Leadership track to broaden her horizons and better understand the different facets that exist within multinational organizations. “Furthermore, the GMBA’s emphasis on digital literacy and mastering digital technology in a business landscape seemed to perfectly echo the reality of today’s worldview.”
Divya, who now works as an account director at Gartner in Singapore, says the program helped her in her current role by refining her critical thinking skills and decision-making capabilities. “Having to understand how each different function within an organization must work in unison to stay progressive, relevant and profitable affords you the luxury of a ‘big picture’ perspective and equips you for a broad spectrum of current and future leadership roles.”
Global Exposure
Besides the opportunity to study in France and Singapore, two of the world’s most important business and tech hubs, ESSEC provides a study environment that is both culturally diverse and international. ESSEC’s Global MBA students also hail from diverse industry backgrounds, a trait that employers value.
Moreover, ESSEC partners with some of the leading international organizations at the forefront of digital transformation, so participants can expect company visits, guest speakers and networking events with inputs from Google, Bayer, Accenture, Twitter and Renault, amongst others.
Following completion of the program, graduates from the 2017 to 2019 cohorts based in ESSEC’s Asia-Pacific campus in Singapore achieved their professional goals via a function change (61%), industry change (66%) and/or geography change (64%). Well-equipped to enter the workforce and desirable in the eyes of employers, they were able to take up a range of in demand jobs in exciting industries such as tech/IT, consulting, finance, oil, gas & energy, even if they were not in these industries before they started the program. They hold positions in companies such as Accenture, IBM, DBS Bank, AirAsia, Grab and Alibaba. ESSEC GMBA graduates are based across the world, with Singapore, France, UK and UAE just some of the international locations hosting them now.
